Support
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers. Where something isn't final yet, we say so instead of polishing over it.
Compatibility
What versions of Ableton Live are supported?
MaestroSuite supports Ableton Live 11 and Live 12, Standard or Suite.
Not supported: Ableton Live Lite, Live Intro, or versions earlier than Live 11.
Is this for live performance or studio work?
Both. For live performance, MaestroSuite focuses on reliable session control, clip launching, mixer access, performance-oriented layouts, USB connection, and quick actions. For studio work, it supports mixing, device control, custom workspace surfaces, routines, diagnostics, and faster control of an active Ableton session.
Does it work with Push, Launchpad, or APC?
MaestroSuite is designed to coexist with Push, Launchpad, APC, and other Ableton controllers.
Honest caveat: final coexistence testing with these controllers is still part of our beta checklist, so we're saying "designed to coexist" rather than promising more until that testing is complete.
Setup and connection
Do I need WiFi?
No. MaestroSuite can connect over WiFi or USB.
WiFi requires the iPad and Mac to be on the same local network. USB is available when WiFi is unreliable or when latency and stability matter, and is the recommended setup for live performance.
How do I reinstall the Remote Script?
Open MaestroBridge on the Mac and choose Reinstall Remote Script or Install Remote Script. Then fully quit and relaunch Ableton Live.
In Ableton, open Preferences → Link/Tempo/MIDI and select Maestro as a Control Surface. Leave Input and Output set to None unless a specific setup guide says otherwise.
If automatic installation fails, manually copy the
Maestro Remote Script folder into
~/Music/Ableton/User Library/Remote Scripts/, then
restart Ableton and select Maestro in the
Control Surface list.
MaestroBridge and the Remote Script
What does MaestroBridge do?
MaestroBridge is the macOS menubar app that connects MaestroSuite on iPad to Ableton Live on the Mac.
It handles discovery and connection, relays messages between the iPad and Ableton, and installs or reinstalls the Ableton Remote Script.
Does MaestroSuite require Max for Live?
No. MaestroSuite's core connection uses the iPad app, MaestroBridge on Mac, and an Ableton Python Remote Script. No Max for Live device is required for normal use.
Voice, AI, privacy, and cloud behavior
What data leaves my device?
Core Ableton/session control data stays on your iPad, Mac, and local network. This includes track names, clip states, BPM, mixer values, MIDI/OSC control data, and device parameters. MaestroSuite does not copy or upload Ableton project files.
If cloud voice or AI features are enabled, voice audio and/or text prompts may be sent to external processing services — currently Deepgram for speech-to-text and Anthropic for language interpretation. Final public wording is being reconciled before launch; see the privacy page.
Diagnostics are not sent automatically. When you send a report, MaestroSuite can package crash reports, session breadcrumbs, MaestroBridge logs, and the Ableton Remote Script log tail for manual sharing.
Can I use it without AI or voice features?
Yes. Core control-surface use does not require AI or voice features. Session View, Studio Mode, Workspace controls, MIDI/API mappings, and manually written routines can all be used without speaking commands or asking AI to generate a routine.
Beta and bug reporting
Where do I report beta bugs?
The final beta support channel is still being decided. For now, beta testers can reply directly to their TestFlight invite email — reports reach the team.
What should a bug report include?
The more of these you include, the faster we can fix it:
1. What you were doing
2. What happened
3. What you expected
4. iPad model and iPadOS version
5. Mac model and macOS version
6. Ableton Live version and edition
7. MaestroBridge version
8. MaestroSuite build number
9. Screenshot, screen recording, or diagnostics report if available
